Seeing this tonight — it sounds like a Batboy, Jollyship, 80’s music video extravaganza and my expectations are HIGH: From the brilliantly demented minds that brought you Ars Nova’s smash hit Jollyship the Whiz-Bang comes Straight Up Vampire: The History of Vampires in Colonial Pennsylvania as Performed to the Music of Paula Abdul. This spooky musical hayride through fake American history tells the tale of Paula Abdul Blackwood, a beautiful quaker girl trapped in a star-crossed love affair with an idealistic young vampire. Everywhere there is dissent. Fractious parties debate the future of the colony. MC Skat Kat and Benjamin Franklin vie for power in the Assembly. A gothic political romance set to the music of Paula Abdul, as performed by members of the rock band Jollyship the Whiz-Bang.
